London Fashion Week: MAN A/W 2013

Highlight der MAN Show: Craig Green A/W 2013

Opinions on how long to ideally support a young talent before releasing it into the ‘mean, evil, and sinister’ world of fashion differ.

Peek&Cloppenburg finance the winner of the Designer for Tomorrow Award a fashion show, Topman supports the chosen young talents fort three seasons with their project MAN.

For the designers Agi&Sam and Astrid Andersen it was the last season in the MAN catwalk schedule, however it was the first on-schedule fashion show for newcomer Craig Green.

Astrid Andersen A/W 2013

The fashion of Agi&Sam can be wonderfully precisely summarized with the words “classic with a twist”. British gentlemen, at times with a walking stick, or a sausage dog on a leash, present the dandyesque, humorous fashion of the British designer duo. Not really our thing.

Astrid Andersen stayed true to her previous style. She’s our “princess of chav”. “This season, I really wanted it to be as bold as it could be but still be a commercial brand”, the Dane said about her new collection. She worked Japanese cotton, silk, and mink into her designs.

We love her ghetto styles but if we’re being honest here, her newest designs aren’t really different from her previous creative output. We’re hoping for a little bit more innovation on her side in the future.

You can see more images of her collection over at the colleagues from Fashionisto.

The highlight of the MAN A/W 2013 was the collection of Craig Green. The Central Saint Martins graduate is the true master of layer-looks. He showed up to four layers in one look. As opposed to his final collection Green went without digital prints this season.

Instead he had the fabrics of his designs treated in a rather subtle way: Waxed cotton was coated with a glazing, satin material was shown with wrinkles. Helen Lawrence, a fellow student at CSM, helped him with the treatment.

Craig Green is ones of the great talents in British fashion. We’re sure to be hearing a lot more about the guy with an eye for detail in the future.
