Buying GQ STYLE is worth it, one of the reasons is the most amusing RICK OWENS interview ever.
The ‘prince of the darkness’ is talking about the connection of his (once) soft, girl-like nipples to his mexican origin. About his outfit, that he wore when he got married to Michele Lamy. And about him once wanting to fuck IGGY POP. All of that is unbelievably amusing.
Also the interview with Erwin Wurm is worth reading. The Austrian artist, in who’s work fashion has an important role, is talking about his ‘One Minute Sculptures’, existential meaninglessness and, of-course, the relation of fashion to his work. WALTER VAN BEIRENDONCK has worked together with Wurm in 2011. You can see the ‘fashionable sculptures’ by Beirendonck x Wurm here.
In an article about Carol Lim and Humberto Leon – the founders of OPENING CEREMONY, who made KENZO cool again, you find out, that Leon has adopted twins with his life-partner, that the designer duo met the founder Kenzo Takada three times and that they are still photographing people wearing their designs on the street.
The cover shows rockstar, actor and, since yesterday, Oscar-winner Jared Leto. A man, who, different from GQ STYLE cover antecessor – Jake Gyllenhall – has a clear relation to fashion, and apart from having long or short hair, looks enviably good in leggings or trousers.
Fashion-god NICOLA FORMICHETTI is reporting in GQ, that total-looks from his designs are boring him. He appreciates it when stylists are mixing his designs with other brands. Strangely Formichetti is doing exactly that: He styles an entire fashion-series exclusively with DIESEL pieces – from head to toe.
GQs David Baum is writing about the tendency, of many designers and their brands, belonging to big fashion-houses. For author-designers is less and less space in the industry. Designer are replaced by design-teams. And the commercial pressure on the creatives is raised. An exciting article about a topic, which is causing a big break within fashion.
Who did not buy the new GQ STYLE, should move his ass to the next news-stand, it is worth it. Kind of a shame, that GQ is only releasing his style edition twice a year. Because at GQ style even print is fun.
