How did you hook up with Eastpak?
We were approached by Eastpak last year. Basically we just sat down and talked about if and how we could work together, and it evolved quite naturally into this project.
How would you describe the collection?
It’s very much a reflection of the Wood Wood summer collection which was heavily inspired by the North American desert and the idea of leaving civilisation behind to go explore the great outdoors – we call the collection ‘Desertion’, which is a nod to the history of Eastpak, having produced bags for the army in the 60s. The bags are quite simple but has a raw, weathered look to them. The main fabric used is a heavy waxed cotton canvas, which wrinkles up really nicely over time.
What’s the idea behind the geometric motifs embroidered on the bags?
Well, we wanted to tone down the branding of the bags, but at the same time we wanted to have some graphic elements present. So we developed this series of geometric graphics which is a reference to patchwork and traditional Native American patterns.
